The EGA/ Embroidery Guild of America , Covered Bridge Chapter , of which I am member, decided to have some fun making a Needle cushion Doll.

The Ceramic doll came from a Dollar Store and my doll was "dressed" over her stuffed pettycoat with a layer of Tuille, heat treated Angelina Fiber fabric and Patchwork of various polyester fabrics which were joined together with a textile tool that resembles a wood burning tool. Her Wings were done on my Bernina 730, free motion embroidery with wire edged satin stitch - her base was finished in black lacy polyester craft felt which was "abused" with the heated textile tool resulting in a lacy pattern, really cool !

The Valley Forge Braiders Guild of which I am a Member

offered participation in the "Fairy Tale" Challenge 2011.

I braided the tower to look old ,added the picot fence and top portion with roof.

The "open " window was felted and the hair braid worked with a thin wire and left over Glitter spun yarn. ..The cloth doll was made from scratch a la Doll Artist /Designer Stacy Clark

She is dressed with pantalons, a crochet bordered Vintage handkerchief for a pettycoat, a lace crocheted doilly for her hat...The doll has an armature allowing her to stand..

My friend Barbara from the Valley Forge Braiders Guild gave me the instructions for making these trees from scraps of wool . We Braiders and Hookers always have wool left over from projects, so I used what I had at hand...will use fabric dye and / or fabric paint to make it green after the glue has set ...also will have to make a nice base for my tree ...think I will use Polymer clay

Hooked and Braided Pillow

The Pillow's back was embellished with an oval shaped piece of fused Angelina Fiber which was heat stamp embossed with a Dragonfly, then the perimeter was beaded and attached .
To join the front and backpieces I made a black cotton fabric ruffle and stitched it by hand. To stuff the pillow I made an oval shaped case and filled it with goose feathers...ahhhhh,nice !

The Valley Forge Rug Braiders Guild , of which I am a member, posted a Braided Rug Flower Challenge to be entered by May 2010 to be judged at the Annual Braid-in Weekend Workshop with the only pre-requisite that each piece be at least 50% braided.
So, I decided to make a braided black backing to be used with the hooked Petula front . Here I am lacing a contrasting woolen border braid onto the black oval, which was braided with strips of black polyester suede and satin.

Wings were attached to back of Doll by sewing on a pipe cleaner. A loop at the ends of the main wire
was then used to secure each wing.
I had planned ahead when I designed her two piece dress toi be buttened in the back.

ok, I am smiling..I like what I am looking at so far....

In order not to make this project too busy, I decided to lightly apply paint to the Underbra sides using gold metallic Luminaire Acrylic paint to give it a leathery slightly distressed look. Also I made cords using several different strips of fabric also adding a string of varigated eyleash yarn, then they were twisted and zig-zagged using my Bernina 730, really cool...I like it...yeahhhh

After adding the lining , I used strips of velvet and silk fabric to finish the outer edges and added the felted body of the butterfly to the center. Imbedded in the felted body are the Butterfly feelers for which I strung black shiny beads to Beadalon wire and secured the beads with crimps , then added gold crabs to the tip hiding the crimps within and wasn;t this just perfect.. yeah...

A while back my friend Eve also introduced me to the Critter workshop at the Brandywine River Museum in Chadds Ford, PA where I became a Volunteer Critter artist.
Throughout the year some 80 volunteers are busy gathering, drying and creating figurines made with only naturally grown materials.

On the first weekend in December the Museum has its annual Critter Sale and people stand in line to get in to buy them as gifts or to add to their private collection. Those Critters have become beloved collector items often displayed on a Christmas Tree. In 1984 the volunteers were invited to the Reagan White House to decorate the main Christmas Tree.This tradition continues at the Museum where all Christmas Trees are decorated with Critters often using a theme like Angels, or Dr. Seuss figures...They continue to bring joy to the Museum visitiors and collectors alike.

Jared ( son of famous sculpter John Johnston) flew in from N.Salt Lake City,Utah on Thursday 9/17/09 where Teri and Sylvia picked him up at Newark, NJ Airport and before long we all enjoyed Sylvia's great salad and Teri's great cheese stuffed crepes with home made tomato sauce and Italian sausage bread along with a smorgasboard of goodies......Jared was a delight to be with, his relaxed manner of teaching, like show 'n tell - now you do it, worked great for us ... we all left on Sunday as new Clay Baby Doll Mamas.......check out the pics , Jared was proud of us.....LOL

I saw Stacy Clark's Clothdoll Exhibit "My own Fairy Tale " at the Schwenkfelder Library in Pennsburg PA in January and soon after I met Stacy during her Library Studio time.Fascinated by her variety of doll characters and her exquisite Fiber Art expressions, I told my Dolling friends about Stacy and they came to visit all the way from northern New Jersey to meet with her and see her doll display.We were so lucky that Stacy agreed to meet with us for a workshop the end of June 2009, especially since Stacy was getting ready for her move to Paris/France for the next few years !

We decided to make Stacy's design "The Old woman in the Shoe".

My dear friend Eve knitted cute little booties for him and gave me about a pound of baby blue yarn and knitting needles.....Hint...hint...hint....

It was my intention to keep the hands movable, so I dropped them into the sleevelike arms and lightly stuffed the arms to allow for lifelike movememt.I should mention that I formed the Fimo base so that there is a slight undercut which keeps the hands from slipping out of the bottom of the arm.

The fat fingers and hands were stuffed and positioned, then I added a Fimo base to each hand, baked it in the toaster oven and added Gesso & acrylic paint also.
When dry the hands feel like vinyl...real soft

The Doll's legs and hands were painted with white Gesso and fleshtone acrylic and hang to dry while directing warm air from a hair dryer to speed up the process. I admit it , this looked quite weird in my kitchen, but it worked great.The toes were first stuffed and sculptured and formed to be quite fat to resemble a baby's foot with the big toe being quite dominant.
