....it was
Mehitabel Dell and her Cat, designed by
elinor peace bailey[
epb], who became the first cloth doll I made, because I loved the
Mehitabel sitting on my friend Evelyn's couch. She had made the doll many years ago when she had taken a workshop class with
elinor, who was then just getting into teaching
dollmaking classes. Eve enjoyed
elinor and her dolls so much that she followed her around and took as many of
elinor's workshops as possible. Evelyn took me to fabric stores to show me how to select the proper muslin quality fabrics for the dolls I was planning to make in weeks to come, and she was a most helpful
instructor teaching me the tricks she had learned from
elinor....
elinor painted the faces of her doll designs and Evelyn ordered , for a fee, several for future dolls she was going to make as gifts, so luccky me received this head for my
Mehitabel as a gift ...I embroidered the face of the cat .
